Question:
Does anybody knows the effect(s) of the emotional status on
the BG?
Answer:
In general, high stress is said to shoot the blood sugars up. Mine have
been known to go down occasionally (go figure). I would check the net for
diabetic information. I don't have any particular URL's off the top of my
head, but I'm sure others in this newsgroup will.
when you are under stress, the body starts producing certain hormones, like
noradrenaline, which tend to increase the BG-level in the blood. This will
be reflected in for example your HbA1c-measurement. This is the direct
effect of stress. There is also an indirect effect, namely that when you are
under stress,
you may neglect your diabetes self-management, through for instance eating
wrong foods, drinking too much, neglecting physical exercise or neglecting
monitoring your BG-levels. At the moment I am studying the effects of
different forms of stress
on BG-levels. In the coming week we plan to publish a questionnaire on the
Internet, which we would like type 1 -patients to fill in.
it is generally known that stress (in general) causes an increase in glucose. How much
would depend on the person and how their bodies handle it(very individualized). Also, some
people respond to stress by eating, and of course that will increase your BG.
I've been a type 1 for the last 35 years and have had much experience dealing
with emotional stress and its effect on bg levels.
