Question:
Like most people, I've been glued to the T.V. this past week finding
out more about what happened. After so many days of seeing these
horrific images and death toll speculations, I turned off the tube and
played Stargate for almost two & 1/2 hours on Saturday. I let myself
become completely absorbed in the game, and for that time didn't think
even once about what was happening around the world.
For some reason, I felt better afterward. It's weird.
My game has always been a source of amusement, frustration, and
conversation, but never therapy.
Has anyone else played thier games during a stressful time in thier
life and felt more able to deal afterwards?
Answer:
Are you kidding? That's my entire reason for collecting (maybe not the entire
reason but a good part of it). I play every day after coming home from work,
better than yelling at the kids or beating the dog ;) I use my project games as
more of an "I need a day away from the world" instead of a 15 minute stress
reliever. I park myself in the garage on a Saturday afternoon and get lost in
wires, solder, fried power supplies, and a couple of games of Berzerk in
between. I feel much better afterwards, well, less stressed about the world and
more frustrated that I can't seem to get the sound to work on DK :)
I find that the best way to play Stargate is to ..."Just convince yourself
that the humanoids are your real-life family. Which will motivate you to
make sure that nothing bad ever, ever happens to them."
