Question:
I've been asked to head a stress management/ relaxation clinic at a club
I work at, and am wondering about any pointers, techniques or books that
may be available out there.
The emphasis is on Lifestyle management, stress management, and
relaxation sessions.
Hey what can I say, the opening was there, and I took it. I have a basic
knowledge, but a bit of polish, and some serious proffesional
application is in order here.
Answer:
Make sure you emphasize that relaxation alone is not the key to successful
stress management. It takes a combination of work on your personality style,
job stresses, health, diet & nutrition, exercise, AND relaxation skills to make
it really worthwhile...
How about the importance of setting specific, achievable goals and following
through to do the work to achieve them? You can teach me relaxation, diet,
nutrition, etc., but if I'm taking consistent steps to actually reach my
other goals (such as at work), I'm gonna be creating a tremendous amount of
stress for myself. Stress reduction requires more than keeping myself in
good health learning how to get away from the stress for periods of time.
The situation is an enviable one, if I can get it together. Being based
in a health club, this gives me the facilities at my finger tips to
ensure maximum effect.
But you see already what I have to get together for this to work, and
maybe actually make some credits for a change.
