Drawing as a release of stress?

Question:

Does anyone use art as a means of relieving stress by drawing? Or a way of overcoming bordom? Do some of you (artists, pro or beginners) draw for your own entertainment?

Answer:
used to use art as a form of calming exersize. However if you read a few of the flaming posts on this newsgroup, it is no longer the case. I found myself now pondering if I should draw and share my works for fear of being judged for either content, quality, or whatever. It would be enough to cause a fur to stop doing art again! But I will wait and see, perhaps I can still keep art as a relaxing hobby. I just have to see how the current events unfold.

Hmmm...well, most people don't know it, but I actually DRAW all the scripts for SHANDA before sending them off to the read artists. So a combination of writing and drawing does relieve stress for me.

The example I give most is that during the 3 years at my last theater I was several riots, one shootout, was robbed twice (once with an UZI) and also went through having a City Manager who was brought up on charges of discrimination against my assistant and I was a witness agaist him. He kept his job and eventually took over my theater when the area was downsized.

Here's how the process I go through: After having an idea burning in my brain for the past week, I finally sit down, turn on some music, and start drawing. I'm one of those people that can only think in 3d so I immediately get pissed off when one of my lines looks off. I curse and bellow some more as I slowly etch out the drawing, etch my stupid eraser to nothing, and etch away any resolve that I may have had. Then I give up on it for a while, take my wolf for a hike, and pass by a cow pasture... at which point I scream, growl, wail, and hurl the largest pebbles I can find at the stupified bovines. And I'll hollar things like "That one line! That damn line that's supposed to constitute her ass! It just looks so fucking wrong no matter what I do!!!... but Look at your ass!.. It looks fucking wrong from this angle too! Your ass is giving me GREIF! and I was just trying to relax, I'm going home Goldarnit!" So I make it home, sit down and finish the drawing, and then INK it which actually starts relieving some stress. Yeah, I'm tracin those lines, singin to the music, actually enjoying myself, and by the time It's completely inked, all that stress I accumulated is usually gone.

don't think I do that, then again I'm not a particularly stressed - out person. It's more like a thing that has it's own reason for being, whatever that might be

Since I don't draw on long international plane flights, (one of the most boring experiences in life) I would say no! I would think the resultant drawing might be boring if I drew it whilst feeling bored, but maybe that works for other folks

Oh, always. All my school papers are covered with my bored doodles, mostly the math ones, though. And whenever I'm in a bad mood or angry at someone, I draw. Though these drawings often come out hasty, violent, dark and sketchy. I almost always draw for my own entertainment, like if just want to express something.
