Question:
I don't know what the relationship is between my inability to conceive
and my stress level. I do know that I am so wound up and all consumed
that if anyone has any suggestions for meditation techniques or
relaxation techniques, I'd be grateful. The onset of PMS this morning
has put me over the edge.
Answer:
My suggestion is to spoil yourself. A glass of wine, a good massage, and
buying a new pair of shoes works for me!
I commiserate. I got my period today so am now in the abyss. Are you in
the Toronto area? I've had a few session with a therapist who specializes
in hypnosis and deep relaxation techniques. She has years of experience
with infertility and all of its emotional baggage and a special interest
in hypnosis and relaxation techniqes and how it can help with
fertility/pregnancy. (a friend of mine is seeing her to help her relax
during labour--wish I was seeing her for that!) If you're interested, I
can E-mail you her number. I was a bit nervous about hypnosis but it's
really just a profound sense of relaxation and openness. I was totally
aware of what was going on but felt extraordinarily relaxed. I told her
some of the things I wanted her to say and the images I wanted her to
describe. We taped the session so now I can play it whenever I want. I
find it helps with the abyss experience! I also wonder about the stress
thing and its affect on fertility. I know that now that I've changed
parts of my job and my hours, I feel better. I was lucky I could make
changes like that. How you get relaxed about trying to get pregnant
beats me. Let me know the answer if you find it!
I highly suggest YOGA. My husband started taking it together, and I
LOVE IT!!! The class we took focused on stress reduction. I am hooked.
I believe it has helped me become more relaxed and I yearn for it
whenever I haven't done it in a while. There are some great videos out
there that teach you YOGA if it isn't offered in your area.
