Question:
I'm happy to provide a summary of my findings and post it on this
support-group once it is finished.
My first few questions are..
1) Stress appears to be a big trigger for the redness and flushing to
occur. Do you think stress management techniques or relaxation
techniques helps with this trigger??
2) Is rosacea a trigger for stress? It seems that although stress
might trigger rosacea, the cycle appears to continue with the rosacea
(and the blushing/flushing symptoms) making sufferers feeling more
stressed!
Answer:
And my answers to both ur questions are YES.
Infact in my case rosacea was caused by stress that's what i feel!if it helps u i would like to tell u how i landed up with rosacea.
I am an Indian wheatish complexion. And people with fair complexion are more prone to rosacea.i did not hv tendency of flushing/blushing,no family history of rosacea. Inever had acne, sensetive skin or any other skin or systemic problem for that matter.I never used any steroid on my face.On the whole i was a healthy person, with no known predisposing factors. But i developed rosacea.I am 29 years. Last year i was going thru a stressful period of my life.I was doing a job and also preparing for higher studies and was also facing some domestic issues .Overall it was about 4month rough period of my life.I was a little depressed,(by the way i am myself a doctor).and when the tension was little over i was feeling better with things working out on both work and domestic front bank rosacea happened. It appeared overnight totally out of the blue, it was a winter afternoon i was working in the hospital and suddenly a nurse told me that both my cheeks were red.i immediately washed my
face but the reddness persisted. This is how my rosacea started.I went to the derm immedietly, he dismissed it as case of some allergy.gradually my symtoms subsided on their own but i think it was because i was taking lot of sedetives and anxiolytics. The folowing hot indian summers went fine but again in jan 2006 i had an very severe episode of flushing which was continous 24 hours a day and lasted for 2.5 months,No derm was able to help me.All my tests (thyroid profile,SLE, and other auto immune d/s,carcinoid syndrome,CBC )were normal. so i was diagnosed with rosacea ,although no derm (i went to 4 best known derms)was very sure about it.My symptoms ,according to all the derms were not "typical"of rosacea. Actually rosacea is avery rare disease in India.I have been suffering like hell since then.No treatment has helped. My condition is deteriorating day by day.I have been off work for more than 3
months, unable even to move out of my room because of severe flushing.it stay on even while i am sleeping .I have been following all the precuation religiously. Finally by end of the 2.5 month agony i was totally depressed, suicidal. then again i resorted back to sedatives and anxiolytics(6-8 alprax a day 2 diazepam) bcoz i was totally depressed. Now i am a little better, my flushing has calmed.
so i think the moral of my story is that i landed up with rosacea due to stress and rosacea induces stress by ruining ur life.
1) Yes, stress can be a major trigger for some rosaceans, but of course not
for all. Those affected might well be helped by stress management techniques
or relaxation techniques.
2) Yes, most rosaceans report feeling stressed by trying to cope with this
disease, and that can certainly cause a vicious circle.
