Effect of oral iron supplementation on oxidative stress and ... ?

Question:

So what does oxidative streess have to do with colitis? My doctor never mentioned anything about Oxidative Stress. Doesn't oxidative stress have something to do with Free Radicals or something? How come my doctor never gave me anything for Oxidative Stress? and wouldn't my meds even cause more oxidative stress?

Answer:
I have to take this pill because I barely had Iron the B complexes and other thing were not normal on my last blood test. I go for a colonoscopy and endoscopies on Thursday. He needs to rule out bleeding disease, lord knows what to be honest with you. But one of the iron indicators on the test show trouble absorbing and possible bleeding, my doc is not convinced I am bleeding though. All I can do is wait until Thursday and see what all this means that is if my test shows anything.. I am hoping for nothing. "Test Negative" I don't know I just know I don't want back on the sick roller coaster with a major surprise at every turn.

If you have to take iron, try to take it under a pidolate form. It seems to be easier for oour organism to absorb it under this form.

I don't know what it is exactly. I only know it is better absorbed by the body under this form. Before I tried iron under this form, my doc prescribed me the usual iron pills, and I could see no difference, I was still very tired and my iron levels didn't go up (they were not catastrophic, but I was loosing blood all the time). Then a year ago I went to see an homeopath, and she prescribed those pidolate iron pills (which also contain calcium, magnesium, potassium and zinc pidolates in them). Under this form, and with the other minerals, I noticed a real change. I'm far less tired and don't have all the muscle pains I used to have.

I've also been told you have to take vitamin C with the iron in order to assimilate it properly. I'm going to try that and see if it goes any better.

I think your refering to the picolinate form of iron.....It's a much more potent form of IRon then say ferrous gluconate. I JUST started taking vitamins that contain iron and guess what?! My colitis flared within a few days and now I'm bleeding fairly badly. I had been symptom-free for over seven months prior to that.

Worse, I stopped taking the vitamins but there has been no improvement. I guess I've started a chain-reaction in my gut that's still playing out.

So yeah, I can absolutley confirm the thesis of the article. I'm living proof.
